By the way, why do you have to take the wt study? Please do not think I am being difficult or unsympathetic but when I was doing accounts in my cong and I wanted to stop doing it I just kept on saying no until they believed me. The same thing happened when I resigned as an elder. I just kept saying, 'I can't do this' (family issues) until they believed me and let me resign.

Help - I'm going to be conducting the watchtower study
by Saltheart Foamfollower init looks like i'm going to have to take the watchtower study for a while so i thought i'd seek help.. i wont be outing myself or stating anything too controversial, but so far i have come up with the following tactics : 1) ask questions which will get people thinking even if it is about something insignificant - developing a questioning mind is the key to discovering ttat as far as i am concerned.
2) highlight any extreme points so that some might realise they are extreme.
3) highlight any good points - helping others in need for example - just because it is the right thing to do.. if anyone has any general comments which could help, please post them here.

I used to take the study until about two years ago. I couldn't do it now even if I was still an elder as there are too many things I don't agree with. Sorry l can't help. I don't know how you can do it. Kudos to you if you can.

The Ray Franz Saga
by snugglebunny ini'm just curious as to how it all happened.. to explain.
many years back, before ex-jw websites, i called on a local lady in order to design an extension to her already enormous house.
she was a young, voluptuous gal, married to a much older local business man who spared little expense in order to give his young wife whatever her heart desired.. we chatted for ages.

Fisherman, in this week's wt study we were told that directions given on how we do the ministry should be viewed as coming from God himself. We also had a recent circuit overseer visit where he quoted a scripture in Revelation about the elders being stars in Jesus' right hand, as he has complete control and can remedy any mistakes made by individuals. But he did not extend this to admit that many mistakes have been made in timing, as you even admit. You can't have it both ways. Either he is in control and responsible for the mistakes made through the years, or the GB and the local elders are on their own(hence all the mistakes made!).

Some thoughts on guilt.
by New day inhad an interesting conversation with my wife recently.
she struggles with physical, emotional and psychological problems which have often caused her to miss meetings.
she mentioned how she is equally tortured by guilt if she misses meetings and ministry, and severe stress if she does them.

Thanks Xanthippe. I don't post very often but when I do I usually get very understanding replies from kind people like you. I do still have some very old friends in the org who I am very fond of but alas I cannot speak freely to them about all my concerns as I would be labeled as an apostate. Any small feelers I put out were greeted with uncomfortable silences, refutations and subject changes. Nice to be truly myself here.

The Judge
by New day ingenuine question here.
a lot has been said on this site about how judge rutherford responded to events in his day by 'revealing' the great crowd of earthly subjects of the kingdom.
it was always portrayed to me as a reaction from the ground up of those who didn't want to go to heaven.

Genuine question here. A lot has been said on this site about how Judge Rutherford responded to events in his day by 'revealing' the great crowd of earthly subjects of the kingdom. It was always portrayed to me as a reaction from the ground up of those who didn't want to go to heaven. This resonated with me as I didn't want to go to heaven either. Why did he do it? Too many people who wanted to go to heaven or what? -

Smiddy, with all due respect, my relationship with my wife has never been like the one you describe. She did not wait, starry-eyed for all my God inspired pronouncements. Actually, and this has always been an impediment to my 'progress' in the org, l have always believed that men and women are equal. Now you may have met people who behaved in this way, and l don't doubt that you have, but our dynamic does not work that way. She has, though, been very influenced by a misguided loyalty, in a general way, to the org. Thank you for your sincere advice. -

Actually, she has recently said she might accept professional counseling so that is something we will look into. Up to now she was afraid it would reflect badly on being a Witness, as she thought a psychiatrist would advise her to reduce activities that cause stress, such as meetings and ministry! -

Talesin, sorry to give you the wrong impression if you thought l was inactive. No, still going out on the ministry to support my wife and to reassure that I have (in her eyes) not lost my faith. If she could take it I would be more forthcoming about how I feel, but it would crush her. I also go to most of the meetings as she couldn't go alone.
Xanthippe, the meds still aren't really working and she has been on them for over a year! We talked to the doc about something stronger but he is very cautious, doesn't want to give her something that drugs her too much.

Thanks for the understanding comments. Tornintwo, you are spot on. My wife feels all that. I have tried to get her to just BE and step back and lick her wounds a little, as I am doing. I have come under serious pressure to be more active again myself, like being asked to take fs meetings, and I have been amazed at myself for being able to kindly but firmly say "no." When they don't expect me to say it as I always gave in in the past, the sense of freedom is surprising. Wow, I can say no!
Xanthippe, she is severely depressed, you said it. Been to docs and she has meds. Not working well so far.

Ucantnome, that is not an option for me at the moment. Got to stay below the parapet to be a support for my wife. She still fully believes and is super fragile.
